Origin and growth of the Printing & Packaging industry
India has a strong infrastructure of professional printing and packing services. The growth of the Indian middle class saw higher consumption aspirations in Indians. Goods of all types now required colorful packing and printing to attract the consumer. This gave rise to professional printing and packing companies that produced eye-catching designs. The food industry is perhaps the largest consumer of professional packing services.
The phenomenal growth of e-commerce has further resulted in giving fresh impetus to the packing and printing companies. It is expected that the printing and packing industry will register a CAGR of approximately 26.7% during the period 2022-2027. This growth is spurred by rising population, increasing income levels, changing lifestyles, and penetration of TV and the internet that has created a generation of an evolved and educated consumer base that is highly aspirational. To understand the size of the printing and packing industry one must look into Care Ratings, a prominent credit rating company in India, a report that states that more than 49% of the paper produced in the country is used for packaging purposes.
The Patparganj Industrial Estate situated in Delhi and Delhi NCR offers a wide range of printing and packaging companies. These companies provide a wide range of professional printing and packaging services. It includes various types of the printing press, offset printing, packaging of toys, tea, tobacco, printing, and publishing of books, diaries, packaging boxes, etc.
Today everything is customized as per the branding and promotion requirement which results in deeper collaboration of designers with the printing companies. Emerging new technologies along with a rise in e-commerce, changing lifestyles, urbanization, and health awareness have boosted the growth of the print and packaging markets. According to the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), packaging consumption in India has increased by 200% in the past decade, rising from 4.3 kg per person per annum (pppa) to 8.6 kg pppa. The rapid growth in exports has stimulated the growth in the packaging industry since it requires international market packaging standards. Change is constant in life and the print community adopted it well.
